ThreatLocker: What to Do When You See a Popup
Your company uses ThreatLocker to keep your computer safe. It works by only allowing approved programs to run. If you try to open something that hasn't been approved yet, you'll see a popup on your screen. This guide walks you through what to do.
1When a Program Is Blocked
What happens when ThreatLocker stops an unapproved program
You'll see a popup like this
This means ThreatLocker stopped the program because it hasn't been approved yet.
Choose an option
Fill out the request form
After clicking “Request Access,” you'll see this form. Tell us what the program is and why you need it. Enter your email so we can let you know when it's approved.
Click “Send Request” when you're done. Your IT team will review it and get back to you.
2When a Program Needs Administrator Permission
Some programs need special permission to install or run
When this happens, you'll see a different popup — it says “Request Elevation” instead of “Request Access.” The process is the same.
You'll see a popup like this
This means the program needs administrator permission that your account doesn't have.
If you need this program — click “Request Elevation.”
If you don't need it — click “Don't show again.”
Fill out the request form
Explain why you need admin permission for this program, and include your email.
Click “Send Request” when you're done.
Note: On some computers, you may see a Windows prompt that looks different (shown below). If this happens, select “Request ThreatLocker Elevation” and fill out the form the same way.
✓After Your Request Is Approved
What to do once IT has approved your request
Once your IT team approves your request, you'll see this popup:
Click “Run Now” to open the program. It's now approved and should work normally from this point on.
